Family members of a Spanish citizen or a citizen of another EU member state, or another state party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or Switzerland, who do not hold the nationality of one of these states, when they join or accompany them, and intend to reside in Spain for more than three months, must apply for and obtain an EU citizen’s family member residence card.

Citizens of an EU member state, another state party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area, or Switzerland who intend to reside in the Spanish territory for more than three months must apply for registration in the Central Register of Foreign Nationals.

What is the register (padrón)?

Everyone living in Spain is obliged to register in the Register of the municipality (padrón) where they habitually reside. Anyone living in more than one municipality will register in the one where they reside for the longest time each year.
